When you’re in the process of creating a consistent workout routine, how do you deal with unforeseen obstacles that stand in your way? Some of these obstacles are out of your control, and you have to get creative in finding a way around them.
Here are a few suggestions on how to stay consistent with your workouts, no matter what challenges you might be facing.
1. Work out at the same time each day.
One way to create consistency with your workouts is to work out at the same time each day. When you don’t have a set daily schedule to follow, create some structure through a solid routine. Instead of relying on your motivation to tell you when to work out whenever you feel like it, plan a time to work out and stick to that time every day.
2. Stay focused on what you can do.
When you don’t have access to your regular gym, you might find yourself thinking about all of the things you can’t do. It’s true, you won’t be able to do certain movements without a gym. However, there are so many modifications and options for workouts that you can do with little to no equipment. Stay focused on what you can do and concentrate on getting in a quality workout with whatever you have available.
3. Work on flexibility and mobility.
Now is a good time to modify your fitness goals and perhaps shift your attention to mobility and moving better. Create a sense of purpose around improving your flexibility and mobility. If you’ve been meaning to put in some more time to increase your flexibility or work on your mobility, now is a great time to do so. Build time into your warm-up or cool down to add in some focused mobility work.
4. Get your family involved.
Accountability helps with building a consistent routine. Get your family involved with your workouts so that you can all hold each other accountable. You may not all do the same workout, and that’s okay. Set time aside each day so that everyone works out at the same time while encouraging each other to stick to the routine.
5. Keep track of your workouts.
Keep track of your daily workouts, just as you would if you were working out in the gym. A workout journal is another excellent source of accountability and motivation. It creates a record of what you’ve done each day so you can look back on what you’ve accomplished.
