If you don’t have much experience with CrossFit, it’s easy to assume a few things. First, many beginners think that every workout is so intense that you must “get fit” before even thinking of trying it. A second assumption is that CrossFit is only for the 20-40+ age groups.
While it’s true that some CrossFit workouts are intense, everything about a workout is scalable to your unique fitness level. The workouts and movements can be modified to be a good fit for all ages and experiences. No matter if it’s been five years or five days since your last workout, you’ll find that you’ll fit right in.
All Fitness Levels
Group workouts are versatile and can accommodate any fitness level. Just because you see something written on the whiteboard or posted on a screen in the gym, it doesn’t mean you must do the workout exactly as it’s written.
The scalability of a workout helps you individualize a workout to your fitness level, as well as your age. Your coach can help you “scale” a workout, or modify it to suit your current fitness level. The scalability of any workout also leaves room for you to improve.
In addition to scaling a workout’s intensity, it’s also possible to modify the movements. Any functional movement can be performed in a variety of ways, depending on your needs. For example, if you don’t have the upper body strength to do a pushup, many modifications target the same muscle groups.
